Online Auction
- Online bidding opens on Monday 21 September and closes at 9.30 pm on Monday 5 October*
- Visit artsfoundation.co.uk/auction to browse the full catalogue
- Register, place your bid, and set a maximum bid to bid automatically
- You’ll receive a notification, SMS or email if you’re outbid
*A few items will close earlier at 6 pm on Monday 5 October, and later, as selected artworks will be presented at the Sotheby’s October Contemporary Day Auction on Friday 16 October; these will be clearly marked on the listing.
Live Auction Dinner
- For those attending the auction dinner, bidding will be live throughout the evening on Monday 5 October
- Register your account ahead of the evening at artsfoundation.co.uk/auction, and your interest in Sotheby’s items on their ‘Contemporary Day Auction’ page
- On the night, use the tablets on the tables or scan a QR code to browse the catalogue and set a bid from your phone
- Set a maximum bid so the system can bid on your behalf

Create your account
- Firstly, create an account with Sotheby’s at www.sothebys.com
Register for auction
- From the Sotheby’s website, head to Auctions > Upcoming Auctions and locate ‘Contemporary Day Auction’ on Friday 16 October.
- Select ‘Register to bid’ before the auction begins to receive your paddle number.
- You will then select how you would like to participate in the auction: in-person, over the phone, online, or by leaving absentee bids.
Place your bids
Bidding online:
- Before the live portion of the auction, you may place maximum bids, which will either be executed immediately (Advance bids) or by the auctioneer during the live auction (Absentee bids).
- During the live auction, enter the online auction room and place your bid once the auctioneer has opened the lot.
- You can follow the bidding activity either by watching the page or by listening to the auctioneer.
Bidding in person:
- You will receive your paddle when checking in at the registration desk, and indicate to the auctioneer when you wish to place bids.
Bidding over the phone:
- You will indicate your desired lots ahead of time, and a Sotheby’s representative will call you the day of the auction to execute bids on your behalf.
