Alexander Whitley trained at the Royal Ballet School joining Birmingham Royal Ballet in 2000. Within two years he was first artist and choreographed two of BRB’s workshop seasons. He left to join Rambert Dance where he worked with a formidable range of choreographers including Michael Clark, Siobhan Davies and Javier de Frutos.
Alexander’s growing interest in contemporary dance drove his desire to create, and led him to choreograph five pieces for Rambert’s Season of New Choreography. Alexander choreographed his first work for the Royal Ballet as part of the 2011 Draft Works programme with his piece ‘Solo’ chosen for Rambert’s repertoire. A member of New Movement Collective Alexander has worked with London film collective DuckEye, new media artist Memo Akten and the Architectural Association with whom he created performance installation work.
