Paul Clark

Fellow in 1998 for Opera Composition

Paul is co-artistic director of performance company Clod Ensemble and has written original scores for all the company’s productions to date. Recent works includes An Anatomie in Four Quarters (Sadler’s Wells 2012, Wales Millenium Centre 2013) ; Zero (Sadler’s Wells, Brighton Festival, Bristol Mayfest 2013) ; Silver Swan (Tate Modern, Turbine Hall 2012) ; Under Glass (Sadler’s Wells, Edinburgh Festival and UK tour – winner of Total Theatre Award 2009) ; Must (Public Theatre New York, Soho Theatre London and UK Tour) and Red Ladies (Southbank Centre Purcell Room, the ICA, London and Serralves Institute, Porto and UK tour). He has also written four chamber operas including The Weather Man (Opera North 2004/5) and liebeslied/my suicides (ICA/Genesis Foundation 2004). He has written dozens of scores for theatre, from the fringe to venues including the National Theatre, Young Vic, the Berlin Schaubuhne and Koln Shauspielhaus with directors including Katie Mitchell, David Farr, Jonathon Holloway and Judy Hegarty. He has also written for radio, film and TV, for directors including Arnaud Desplechin and Emily Young and collaborated with a huge range of artists including Dangermouse, Mark E Smith, David Sedaris, Rut Blees Luxemberg, Mel Brimfield and Simon Amstell.
