Rosie Heafford

Shortlisted in 2016 for Children's Theatre

I am a performance maker and choreographer. In 2011 I established Second Hand Dance, a company that collaborates with dancers, artists and the public to make thought provoking, joyful and highly visual dance performances for all ages. My work is often socially engaged, subtly participatory and has been performed in a variety of spaces, from theatres to libraries. I’m interested in the celebratory aspect of performance. Something that is full of joy. Where dance is reclaimed from awkwardness into a gift; an exchange between viewer and performer.

Previous projects include:
⎯ ‘Getting Dressed’, a show for ages 4+ exploring imagination with the clothes we wear
⎯ ‘Grass’, a show for 4+, later adapted for ages 2-4, exploring the world beneath our feet
⎯ ‘16 Singers’, an experience for or babies aged 0 – 18 months directed by Katherine Morely
⎯ ‘Dad Dancing’, a show exploring fatherhood performed by 22 father-figures, sons and daughters
Fantastical Feats, The Giants Story & Creepy House commissioned by Pavilion Dance South West and South West Libraries, 3 separate commissions that explored live performance and digital dance for children in libraries

I am supported by South East Dance as Company in Residence and Pavilion Dance South West as Playtime Artist.
