Alex Frost (Sculpture, 2013)

Alex Frost

Shortlisted in 2013 for Sculpture

Materials, processes and ideas have equal standing within Alex’s practice which discusses the interface of craft and digital technology, collective and individual activity and public and private space. A theme of the encroaching post-industrial landscape ties together the various materials and processes within his work to create comments about capitalist culture using both humour and ambivalence.
An example of this reference is shown through his mosaic sculptures of simulated dietary products and calming lotions which conjure up endless failed attempts at control against a backdrop of culturally urbane lifestyles.

His interest in creating art for the public realm was realised in 2012 with a large mosaic commission in Easterhouse Glasgow using a former community mosaic as its starting point.
