Jane Harris

Born in Dorset in 1956, Jane Harris graduated with a Higher Diploma Fine Art from the Slade School of Art in 1981 and an MA in Fine Art at Goldsmiths College in 1991.

Throughout her career Jane Harris has been the recipient of a number of awards and prizes, including the Boise Travelling Scholarship to Japan in 1982, the Arts Foundation Painting Fellowship in 1995 and the Sunny Dupree Family Award at the RA Summer Exhibition 2012. In 2013 she was one of four laureates of the Cité de la Tapisserie, Aubusson, France.

Her work has been exhibited widely, including important international exhibitions at the Dusseldorf and Stuttgart Kunstvereins, Museum of Modern Art Foundation Ludwig Vienna, Museum of Modern Art Prague, Hayward Gallery London, Modern Art Oxford, Edificio Cultura Inglesa Sao Paulo, FRAC Aquitaine, FRAC Limousin, TATE St Ives and Mead Gallery, University of Warwick.

Museum solo exhibitions include Southampton City Art Gallery (UK) 2001, The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum (USA) 2005 and the Libourne Musée des Beaux Arts (France) 2014.

Harris’ work is included in many public, corporate and private collections around the world including in the UK: the Arts Council Collection, Government Art Collection, Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, Southampton City Art Gallery, Pallant House Chichester (The Golder- Thompson Gift), Fitzwilliam Museum Cambridge, British Airways, Ernst & Young; in the US: Colorado University Art Museum, Rhode Island School of Design Museum, SAKS Fifth Avenue, Los Angeles Children’s Hospital; in France: FRAC Acquitaine, FRAC-Artothèque Limousin, FRAC Poitou-Charentes and Lieu d’Art et d’Action Contemporain (LAAC) de Dunkerque.

In 2011 and 2015 she was Artist in Residence at the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation in Connecticut, USA and in 2012 at the Artistes en Résidence, Clermont-Ferrand, France.

Jane Harris lives in SW France and in 2016 she was commissioned by the FRAC Aquitaine, the FRAC Poitou-Charentes and the FRAC-Artothèque Limousin to design a flag to celebrate their future collaborations as part of the new region of La Nouvelle Aquitaine.

Recent solo exhibitions include ‘New works on paper’ at Two Rooms Gallery, Auckland, New Zealand, 2017 and ‘Out There’ at Eagle Gallery, London, 2018.

Jane Harris is represented in France by Galerie Bessières, and opens her first solo exhibition in October 2020.
