The key themes underpinning my practice are ‘fitting in’ and ‘belonging’, which I explore by invoking childhood and domestic spaces. Through using polar fleece sculptures I combine the innocence of cuddly toys with an underlying threat or vulnerability. These creatures stand in for us reflecting our own fears and conflicts.
In the most recent work they have taken the form of teddy bears that are black and have pointed ears. The work seems to be about childhood but does not always reference my own. They are not toys from my past, but reflect fears from the present day.
