Fellow in 2015 for Materials Innovation

Sarat Babu works on physical products focusing on the convergence between design, manufacturing, materials and software. Sarat focuses on developing new computational methods, processes and tools that we need to conceive, execute and scale the performances advances in manufacturing unlocks.

Sarat is part of Meta’s Reality Labs, and previously worked for Alloyed as Chief Digital Officer. Alloyed was formed through the acquisition of his prior company, Betatype.

Alloyed builds computatioal design tools to extend what could be designed and manufactured using additive manufacturing. They provide advanced design and engineering services to some of the worlds largest companies in a range of industries including consumer electronics, medical, automotive and aerospace.

Prior to Betatype, Sarat co-founded and ran BREAD a product design consultancy with Andrew Brand, was part of the founding team behind Orthonika, been a Research Associate in the Medical Engineering group at Imperial College London, a Senior Visiting Tutor on the Innovation Design Engineering course at the Royal College of Art and a materials specialist at Ross Lovegrove Studio.
