Gwyneth Herbert

Shortlisted in 2013 for Composition for Musicals

Being a natural lyricist, it is the story which provides the way in for Gwyneth Herbert when writing for her band. Inspiration comes from a multitude of sources be it a sculpture, ancient myth or a chance encounter on a Hackney pavement.

Gwyneth has forged a career as a jazz/folk singer and regularly tours with her band of seven years. Her work in musical theatre includes The A to Z of Mrs P, exploring the eccentric artist and inventor of The A-Z, Phyllis Pearsall, and Elsie de Wolfe Isn’t Dead, with texts and lyrics by Warner Brown. In 2011 she was commissioned by Snape Maltings Aldeburgh to write a multi-layered song-cycle Sea Cabinet involving music, film, art and storytelling.
